Sacred Presence
Initiative
An ethical framework for immersive spiritual platforms grounded in the Gospel accounts.
"Shaping Sacred Presence in the Digital Age"
Ethics Before
Innovation
We believe that emerging technologies — from virtual reality to artificial intelligence — must be evaluated through rigorous theological and ethical frameworks before they are deployed in contexts of spiritual formation.
Sacred Presence Initiative does not oppose technology. It insists that technology serve the human person and the community of faith, rather than reduce spiritual encounter to a product or spectacle.
Every representation of sacred persons, events, or texts must remain anchored in the canonical Gospels and the Magisterium of the Church. No speculation beyond the revealed deposit of faith.
Immersive spiritual technologies must enhance — never diminish — the dignity of the human person as created in the image and likeness of God. The user is never a consumer; they are a person in search of God.
Users must always understand what they are engaging with: a mediated artistic representation, not a literal presence. Clarity protects the conscience and the integrity of faith.
Toward an Ethical Framework for Immersive Spiritual Platforms
This consolidated academic monograph examines the ethical, theological, and technological conditions under which an immersive platform centered on the life and teachings of Jesus may be designed responsibly.
"Immersive representations of Jesus can function as theologically responsible instruments of biblical reflection only when their design preserves the ontological, theological, and ethical boundaries between narrative simulation, mediated encounter, and sacramental reality."
— Sacred Presence Initiative Monograph, Ch. 4
